In 2007, McCormack Vineyard partners purchased 428 acres in Winthrop Washington which included a 9 hole golf course known as Bear Creek Golf.
As developers we envisioned adding 9 holes of golf to make it 18 and create lots with rustic country cabins in and around the new 18 hole golf course. In early 2008 we learned about the Lake Pearrygin Master Plan and met with the leadership of the Washington State Parks department and representatives of the Governor's office who explained to us the purpose of their plan and their long term desire to acquire our property and control its future use. A use primarily geared for wild life corridors, ski trails, and the continuing recreation for the golf course. Our experience in successfully working with the Nature Conservancy in Coeur D' Alene Idaho reminded us that to be good stewards of the land sometimes it's best to just leave it in it's natural state and work with those who drive that goal. In this case, the State Parks Department and the local land trust. |
